  THE WEIJA LAKE

The weija lake, located  17km west of Accra capital of Ghana; it has a shoreline of 48km. The weija lake was purposefully created in 1979 by the Government of Ghana to simply supply piped borne water and to support irrigation and fisheries activities.

In spite of it requisite purpose, people living along the banks of the lake have cleaned large portions of the vegetation surrounding the lake for farming purposes. In regard to the activities taken place it has caused the lake to be losing much water due to the drying up of the moisture content of lands surrounding the lake.

As a result of the  surrounding land losing protective cover, anytime it rains, street erosion arouses huge volumes of sand into the water body causing much attendant problems. Also most people living close to the dam engaged in wood harvesting, an activity that further destroyed the vegetation cover of the lake.

From my observation, i found out that due to the poor waste management practices of Ghanians, people living along the banks of the lake tend to use the lake as a refuse receptacle pouring anything unwanted into the water body, household refuge fecal matter and so forth. The pollution of the lake had  been compounded as a result of several industrial and commercial activities carried out at the weija township. These activities has caused the lives of many aquatic life's; it has hamper the production of fisheries.

In conclusion, it will be of great help to Ghanians  if Ghana Water Company Limited and other organization who matter will provide chemicals to remove excessive pollutants with consequential effects on aquatic life.

KLAGON STREAM;   The next water body to be discuss is the klagon stream. Klagon is a stream which is located at the locality of Nungua- Ashiaman. The stream has been in existence fora long peroid of time and has been of great benefit to its surrounding dwellers. The stream bases it source from Eastern  part of the country(Mountain) Adenta and Dodowa to be precise. The streams extends and stretches to the Sakumono lagoon. The stream serves as great benefit to its surrounding people.

Since the stream is located at a developing locality, the people there use it for commercial purposes. For most building contractors the stream serves as a means of acquiring water to accomplish their building project. Since the stream is owned by no individual or organization, most people tend to it for their personal interest.

In spite of it commercial purposes, its also use for irrigation purposes. Farmers around use the stream as a means to irrigate their crops such as tomatoes, okro, pepper and other food products which is used to sustain and enhance human life.

The stream also generate different kinds of fish but one thing to note is that, fishing in streams offers different challenges than fishing in lakes and ponds because in fishing in streams you have to deal with moving water. In streams fishing you have to know where the water is moving and how fish behave in it.The most important thing to know is where fish hide in streams and after knowing this you then adapt strategy to pull the fish out of the stream. Most people after getting hold of the fish either sells them if they come in high quantity or feed on them. Also the stream serves as a reservoir in which big gutters are being channeled into the stream.

Due to the different angle the stream serves, it can be said that the stream serves as multi purpose to the interest of people who benefit from it(klagon streams)

KPESHIE LAGOON

Dirt in the lagoon

Besides the korle lagoon and Laa Sea, the next water body i will be talking about is the Kpeshie lagoon. Literally, the kpeshie lagoon is located in Laa-Teshie road which is in Ghana on the continent of Africa. The lagoon is located at the latitude and longitude coordinated of 5.56667 and -133333. The kpeshie drainage basin covers a relatively small catchment area of 110km2. The lagoon is bounded on the east by the Military Academy at Teshie on the north by a line south of madina and Ajirignano. It cut across the eastern part of Accra, Ridge, Cantonment, Laa, Osu and Burma camp areas. Notably the Streams in the catchment generally flow north to south, emptying directly into the principal outlet to the sea at kpeshie lagoon.

Kpeshie lagoon
For quiet sometime now, an extensive portion of the lagoon has been filled with garbage and waste materials rendering the lagoon with all kinds of waste items such as plastics, canny food items which has made it impossible for the lagoon to produce.

Overview of the lagoon
As at now, due to the deplorable state of the lagoon it will be of great benefit to the country if government officials or media personnel’s will create awareness of potential benefits Ghana can derive from the lagoon in terms of its economic, social, hydrological and ecological if the lagoon is kept clean.

THE LAA SEA ;Laa formerly known as Labadi, is a town near Teshie in Greater Accra Region in Ghana, The name was changed from Labadi to Laa because of the negative misinterpretation people attribute to the name "Labadi" as the town being a bad town. Laa sea which properly also known as Laa Pleasure Beach happens to be the busiest beach on Ghana's coast. On your arrival you will see the sea located on your right and the river on the left, my topic of analysis will be based on the Laa Sea.

Significant portion of the Laa Sea is termed as a beach, which serves as a place for relaxation, a place to enjoy a seren atmosphere, as a place to listen to silent rhythm of the waves the sea provides and most importantly enjoy the natural view the sea offers as well as swimming. Laa beach is known as a lively place with an admirable crowd mostly on weekends and even more on public holidays.

Also, the sea provides fishes, shrimps, crabs, and sea snails, which serves as income earning for most of the fishermen and fish mongers, who smoke and sell the fishes to make a living and feed on the fishes too.

A PORTION OF THE LAA SEA.
It is believed that the sea attracts lots of people for various purposes, which has enabled people to set up several business avenues such as bars, restaurants, horse rides and other games to generate income to earn a living.
Unfortunately, though the sea is the main reason why one visits the sea or beach, it seems most people also do not get the level of expectations they intend to get. For instances, seeing horse riders, hawkers etc.  taken over the sea saddens most people who visits the place especially  for the first time, because these people totally block ones view from the sea as well as rudely seek  for  attention when in fact the sea is the reason one visits.

In conclusion the video, pictures, audio with the feature analysis the over view of how the sea serves as a meaningful purpose to individuals as well as  entrepreneurs such as owners of hotels along the
beach, restaurants and owners of horses.
